Texas to pay Big 12 championship bonuses to coaches

Taking the asterisk to the next level, the Longhorns have decided to pay Big XII championship bonuses to assistant coaches and staffers... even though Texas didn't reach the title game.

Texas officials announced Monday that a dozen assistants and support staffers will receive Big 12 championship bonuses totaling $44,000. Athletic Director DeLoss Dodds said he received permission from UT's president and men's athletic council to cut the checks. Coach Mack Brown will not receive a bonus, the Austin American-Statesman reported Tuesday.

OK. The asterisk was embarrassing, but to continue to publicly present themselves as the Big 12 champions is just making Texas look a little silly in my eyes.

ATTN HORNS: You played under the same rules as every other team... and that's the system. I don't recall Mack Brown protesting the conference rules BEFORE the season started, so SHUT IT.
