Coach Fran resigns after win over Horns

Dennis Franchione may have been the Texas A&M whipping boy for the past two month, but he gave a record Aggie crowd a little something to remember him by Friday night, beating Texas 38-30, before resigning his position as head football coach.

“We appreciate the opportunity we have had at this great institution, to work with this administration,” he said. “We have made many lasting friendships.”

A&M officials announced that Franchione had accepted an undisclosed buyout to step aside after a 32-28 record over five seasons.

"I want to express my regret and gratitude to Coach Franchione for his courage in making this decision, and putting the interests of his players and this institution ahead of his own interests," Byrne said. "We wish Coach Franchione the very best moving forward and we are grateful for all of his hard work and effort while he was here at A&M."

Athletic department spokesman Alan Cannon said the players did not know about Franchione's intentions until after the game.

Any Coach that can beat texas two in a row is alright with me, give the man some 4 and 5 star recruits and take away his e-mail privileges and he will make some school a good Coach

Just another stupid move on an administration's part. Texas A&M has been a dayum decent team. Doesn't surprise me that they beat Texas. Why does every coach who only has a "good" team have to be fired. I don't get it. Not everybody can win it all. The Big 12 is an extremely competitive conference and TAM has certainly held their own. Who they gonna get? Rich Rodriguez? Pete Carroll? Mack Brown? Come on! Good for Franchione to shove it up their collective culo's! Maybe he'll take the Nebraska or LSU job. Who knows?

In his post game interview, Franchione looked like a deer in headlights. He knew how his story was going to play out, but seemed purposely deceptive with the questions, and couldn't even answer the one about what his team meant to him. He didn't look nervous, he looked like he wanted to stick one in ATM's side before he left.

Really, he looked like he had no idea that his team might have a chance to win that game and hadn't really didn't know what to say once they dropped the victory in his lap.

#3 do you actually believe that Franny was fired because he was only a "good coach"? Give us a break.

    SWA:

Why was he asked to leave? Is it because he is a "bad coach"? Was he hired at Alabama because he was "a bad coach"? Was he hired at TAM because of the same reason? How did he get to be a bad coach? Because somebody else does a "great job" - does that mean that you did a "bad job"? You ever notice that not too many Pac-10 coaches have to be fired just because Pete Carroll has done a great job? Oh, except for Karl Dorrall - he'll have to be fired. Clue me in.

#6 you need to read some of your own comments and then try to answer the questions yourself.

WHO said the he was a bad coach? He was fired because he couldn't keep his mouth shut NOT because of his record.

I doubt that A&M would want Pete Carroll. He isn't tough enough for that conference.

SHA: Why would Carroll EVER want to leave Southern Cal? Seriously. That program is Hollywood! USC IS sexy college football. Did you see all the celebrities on the USC sideline on Thursday night? Even Auburn Tiger fan Charles Barkley was hanging out on the Trojan sidelines.

He was probably stealing signals for us!

Sparky #8, for all us other ignorant Bama fans could you explain your statement "they fire them over money." Would that be the lack of?? I think most coaches are fired for their team's performance or their inability to get along with the "powers that be" which could be an accurate way of describing Fran's problem.

Anyone else wonder who would end up eating the other one first if they were put in the same room for a week between Charlie Weiss and Mark Mangino? I'd put my money on Mangino but I think Charlie would get a chunk off his leg first.

Guys....the email thing was just a reason for the A.D. to start looking earlier than they would have without it. He was gone this season regardless.

-the fact that his W-L record was 3-12 vs. OU, texas, & texas tech....

-that he was 1-10 vs. Top 10....

-that he lost 77-0 to Oklahoma

    -that he lost to Baylor....

-that he had a 19-21 conference record....

-that he was 19-27 against BCS opponents....

-that in 5 seasons we only went to two bowl games

-that in those two bowl games we suffered the two worst bowl losses in school history....

-the fact that we get completely blown out at least twice per season....

....those are the reasons why he is gone.

    oh I forgot one...

-that 4 of his 5 seasons are on the list of 5 Worst Defensive Seasons in school history

-that we lost by 20+ points in 1/5th of our games (that is 20%)....

-that we lost by 30+ points in 12% of our games....

Somebody needs to get Sparty under control. The guys in Austin need to give him a ring and find out what kind of dope he's smokin'.

Simple fact of the matter is that Fran got fired because he didn't produce. The e-mail crap gave us an out on the buyout. That should allow us to go after a good coach. Hasn't happened in the past, but I hope the Ags step up to the plate on this one.
