Tulane: SEC school "lower than dirt"
Tulane football coach Chris Scelfo has contacted "the proper people" concerning tampering allegations against an undisclosed SEC school. Reports from Tulane say that an SEC assistnat coach has contacted several Tulane players about transferring from the Green Wave football team.
Tulane has brought incidents to the NCAA's attention in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, but reports say that the latest incidents by the SEC coach are more recent.
Scelfo was quoted as saying: "In the worst natural disaster in the history of the United States, you've got to stoop pretty low to do that. You're lower than dirt."I have reported them to the proper people," he continued. "I'm not going to tolerate that. There's people in our business that don't belong in our business."
You gotta feel for Tulane on this one. Yes, Tulane has looked at dropping football in the past and yes, Tulane is in a money crunch right now, but the university remains on the record that they intend to field a football team in the future. To start plundering players from a program that is essentially trying to pull themselves up out of the financial intensive care unit is pretty despicable.
As to who the SEC team is, it's impossible to say. Because of the proximity of the two schools, you might suspect LSU, but if the Tigers had wanted the Tulane players in the first place, you also have to think they could have signed them originally. A more logical assumption would be one of the SEC up & comers looking to upgrade depth, like a Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Arkansas, or Vandy. But again, that's just pure supposition.

Hey, it's pretty lowdown when you try to proselyte other team's players during any major tragedy. Having said that, Tulane's just getting the latter of what goes around comes around. Oh yeah, you guys better back off Ole Bey Bey. He might find you and cave in your sinus cavity with one of his famous head butts!!! LOL

Well, I'm an LSU fan, and I think this is lousy. If an LSU assistant coach did it (which I doubt) he should be fired.
I hope the NCAA investigates and gets the facts out. It is certainly the "dark side" of NCAA football, and whoever did it really needs to be exposed. I don't think it's very helpful to speculate on who it might be. Tulane probably has a few guys who could play anywhere in the SEC, but I hate to think that any coaching staff is that desperate to win -- or to keep winning.

war eagle 04, I sure hope that by "class" you mean a class of students.... b/c I (an Ole Miss die hard) think that if there is one thing going for Croom it is his class. He has demanded discipline from his players on and off the field. He may not be able to win... and it isn't often that you will hear me say a positive word about Miss State... but I will say that the one thing Croom has is character and class.
This may be a cheap shot but at least he is honest... unlike a past Ole Miss coach that I am sure you are familiar with...

Whats up w/ that dave? Im ignorant to this I guess, what was the deal with dishonesty? It was my understanding that everything was on the up and up. Enlighten me please. This is an honest question, I didn't know anything about any dishonesty with the ex-ole miss coach you speak of.
