Tulsa coaches nearly lost the game twice!
If you didn't watch or haven't seen the highlights of the epic shoot-out between Tulsa and East Carolina, you really missed a heck of a finish. I mean, beginning in the third quarter, the teams went back-and-forth scoring touchdowns on ten straight possessions. In the end, a hail mary pass sealed the win for East Carolina.
But what if that pass had been dropped or broken up by the Tulsa defense? Well, our crack analysis says that Tulsa should have been flagged on the play giving ECU another shot at winning the game.

Indeed, Tulsa had two players on the field wearing #1. According to Rule 1, Section 4, Article 2, c:
No two players of the same team shall participate in the same down wearing identical numbers (A.R. 1-4-2-II) [S23].
Had the pass fallen incomplete, Tulsa should have been tagged with a five-yard, live ball penalty, thus handing the Pirates one more shot to win the game.
Luckily (perhaps) for the Tulsa coaches, they only had to explain how the Pirates won and not how the Tulsa coaches cost their team the win.
