UAB's Brown retains himself as coach next season

UAB's Athletic Director came out on Monday and announced his support made the announcement for the Blazers Head Football to return for the 2006 season.

The irony in this is that despite the teams struggles in 2005, the UAB AD & Head Coach are one in the same - as both positions are held by Watson Brown. And AD/HC Brown gave himself a big thumbs up despite finishing with a losing record.

Brown is in his 11th year as the head coach at UAB but has shared the AD duties now for four seasons.

It remains to be seen if he will continue his dual role or go back to exclusively dealing with the football program.

More on this from the Birmingham News.

"I can look ahead on one piece, I'm going to be the football coach here," Brown said outside his team's locker room. "I think there's some other things I've got to start looking at. I really feel like I didn't do a good job coaching this team. I think there are reasons for that. I'm not going to get into what I think they were but I've got to be the football coach here first. You've got to make sure you take care of that job."

Watson Brown should be firing himself to save UAB football. This team should've won the conference title, not lost 6 games by an average of about 6 points.

This really isn't suprising he is after all Mack Brown's brother. They both are pretty much politicians, its just that Mack has a larger platform. What politician would fire themselves from a payday? I suspect not many.
