UCLA search turns to Chow, Mendenhall
According to reports in the LA Times and ESPN, the UCLA coaching search is turning to Tennessee Titans OC Norm Chow. Chow is expected to be interviewed by the end of the week.
In addition to his offensive track record, Chow is highly sought after by the Bruins because of his working relationship with current UCLA interim coach, DC DeWayne Walker. Walker and Chow worked together at Southern Cal.
ESPN is also reporting that UCLA is trying to guage the interest of BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall.
BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe told the Deseret Morning News that UCLA has not asked permission to interview Mendenhall, so any conversations at this point are likely through intermediaries.
Mendenhall, the 2006 Mountain West Coach of the Year, has led the Cougars to two straight undefeated conference championships. He signed an extension to stay with BYU in August 2007, at an estimated $1 million per year and a $250,000 buyout clause.

If anyone thinks Chow will be the next UCLA coach, think again. UCLA has never spent a lot of money to hire or maintain a head coach for their football program. Chow wants a lot of money to be a head coach.
They always go after someone that will keep the cost down, try and get the most out of them, and if that coach goes to another team, they let them walk.
If this report is true, Mendenhall will probably get the job since he has such a low buy out clause, and they can get him at a low price.
I still say former Chicago Bears Def Cord, and current LB coach of the Chargers, Ron Rivera would be a great hire.Spartacus

I can't see this at all and I'm not buying it. Chow is always lookin' for a raise. He does this every year. Tennessee will get him more cheese but UCLA never will. He'll just lose there anyway. He can't compete in the Pac 10 with all the great recruiters that are already in place. The guy is a "zero" in the personality department. He's just fine where he is and that is where he is gonna stay. Vince Young is the guy who is gonna continue to make him a "pure genius". Guys like Ben Olsen, Patrick Cowan and Rasshan are not going to make it happen - regardless of who is calling the plays. There is no way that Chow goes up against Pete Carroll in his own backyard. Quite frankly, the guy is a genius, and would never be that stupid. There are better places to go and get your 1st head coaching position. Washington State would even be a better move than this.
