UCLA inks 2 & 1 with Houston

I'll say this: The UCLA Bruins really, really, really enjoy playing in Texas.

UCLA, who already has upcoming games with Texas in Austin in 2010 and Rice in Houston in 2012, has signed a three-game series with the Houston Cougars to commence in 2010. The Bruins will play two games in Rose Bowl against UH (in 2010 and 2012) with the 2011 game being played at Houston's Robertson Stadium.

"I think this is real important for us," [Houston AD Dave] Maggard said. "If we aspire to be a national program, then we have to play a few of these games. And even if we have to go on the road on occasion to do this, as long as they'll come back and play on our campus I'll do it."

So, for all you Texas-based Bruin alumni, I guess it's time to re-up those booster memberships, as you'll get three UCLA games in the Lone Star State in three years.

I think Houston will be an interesting fit for UCLA. The Cougars’ offense could pose some match-up problems for UCLA’s defense (not certain about the other way around). I see Houston as one of those competitive programs, like ECU or TCU, looking for a little respect. A good showing against the Bruins will go a long way toward that, despite the fact that UCLA hasn’t done all that much in recent years, save for a big upset or two.

What’s kind of funny, if you think about; between OK & TX, they could establish their own conference. Not only would you have OK, OK St, & Tulsa, but TX, TX A&M, TCU, Houston, TX Tech, SMU, TX ElPaso, Baylor, Rice; I know I’m missing a couple more. The point is, there’s lots of good football in the region to choose from. Houston is just one of many good choices.

Still can't wait for UCLA to come to Austin! That 66-3 a$$ whipping they laid on us in Austin in 1997 is still fresh on my mind 11 years later!

Zac good idea with that conference suggestion. Would love to see the Horns playing SMU and TCU every year or every other year especially with me living in Dallas.
