Beer banned from USC home games
University of Southern California president Steven Sample has announced that the possession or sale of alcohol will no longer be allowed at home football games at the L.A. Coliseum. The Trojans were the only conference school still allowing beer sales at home games and one of few nationally. UCLA doesn't allow sales at home games in the Rose Bowl but they are allowed during the bowl game.
Sample cited the example of bad behavior by intoxicated fans of the Raiders when the NFl team played in the Coliseum as what the school is trying to avoid. He also said they wanted the games to be as family-friendly as possible.

The NCAA really needs to take action Matt. Since there are so many regular season venues selling beer now. I can only think of one remaining (I'm sure there are a couple of more) and it's the Orange Bowl. Bowl games will have beer sales and the NCAA won't be able to do anything about it unless they tie that into the certification process, otherwise they have no control over bowls.

Jeff- Are you saying beer should or shouldn't be banned? I'm confused. I don't have a problem with selling beer at the games, if it's *sold* responsibly (ie don't sell four Solo cups to a guy that's falling down drunk.)

I don't understand the statement that beer is only sold at USC. I know from many years of experiance that thought they don't sell beer actually in Autzen Stadium (Oregon) that they sell it in the Moshofsky Center, which is in the same complex. You can usually tell when halftime is close without looking at the clock by noticing most people of age getting out of thier seats and walking 100 yards to the 2 million dollar beer garden.
