USC players quit over steroids, connection to Bonds?
The Daily News is reporting that USC safety Brandon Ting had tested positive for steroid use prior to leaving the Trojans. Ting, who quit the team last week along with his brother Ryan despite being the subject of some USC bloggers' crush, will focus his time on pursuing a medical degree.
The departure of the Ting brothers is another blow to USC's depth at safety following the loss of Will Harris, who tore ligaments in his knee during the off-season.
The interesting angle to this steroid saga is that the father of the Ting twins, Dr. Arthur Ting, was subpoenaed and testified before a U.S. grand jury investigating steroid accusations surrounding baseball slugger Barry Bonds. Dr. Ting is Bonds' personal surgeon, specializing in orthopedics.
Dr. Ting was disciplined twice in the last ten years by the California Medical Board for writing prescriptions with inadequate records and allowing others in his office to write prescriptions.
All of this raises two questions:
1) Did one or both of the Tings test positive for steroids supplied by their father?
2) Are there other USC players who may have received steroids from the Tings or their father?

I've said it about Baseball, Lance Armstrong, Barry Bonds(HGH), the new Lance Bicycle-rider-guy, and I'll say it about Brandon Ting... Get Past It.
Enforce the rules, whatever they might be, but stop the Witch-Hunt, Congress-involving, Media-Circus... Everyone, get off your high-horse about this issue and come to the realization that We are a drug-Society.
Housewives are living off of Valium... Baby-Boomer-geezers are bone-ing up with Viagra... Kids are friggin being raise on Ritalin, and Prozac and whatever-the-hell else. Why is stuff like HGH, Steroids so "evil"? The poltry, dairy, beef, that we eat is loaded with this stuff.
We're on the precipice of a Bio-Tech revolution... this next generation, kids today, will be manipulating Stem-Cells to where we'll have Athletes-made-to-Order. People 30 years from now are gonna look back that this Steroids "Controversy" as quaint.... Right now its just Candy for the Sports-Media frenzy.

MajorRagger, We, people also make the "Laws".
Im here in Las Vegas, gambling is Legal in Nevada because we Decided to make it So. Its not Illegal in where-ever-else because we Decided to make it So. Where's the "right and wrong"???I dont care too much about MLB one way or the other, or for Bonds, etc... but the guy hasnt Tested Positive for Steroids right? And it hasnt been made "Against the RULES in MLB" until recently, right? It may have been "ILLEGAL" but not against the Rules. Its a witch-hunt with Bonds, he happens to make a good lighting-rod, thats all.
Prohibition, alcohol was "Illegal" back in Babe Ruth's days... was it "against the RULES"???So Cal USMC said:

What "cheating"???
Help me understand. During the time which Bonds admits to "un-knowningly" taking what-ever it was, taking Steroids/HGH wasnt againt the RULES, right? Clear that up for me.Did Babe Ruth "cheat" because he Boozed-up during Prohibition?

It wasn't against baseball rules, but it was illegal. I think thats the point everyone misses. Its cheating and unethical, and to argue for it and say it is ok at the college level is sick. College football is about the game and the oppurtunity for an education. It is in no way justifiable. SoCal USMC... I listened to Dan Patrick today also. Maybe you could just start pasting his comments up here and save some time. Alcohol isn't a performance enhancer.

Dan Patrick on steroids too ?!?!
I make one joke and immediately his fans jump out to defend him... relax ColReb. What "comments" of his did I "past"? Im joking about how the Steroids thing is so over-blown.Not against the rules, but illegal - that describes "drinking" in Babe Ruth's era.
The point everyone is making with all of this hoop-la, is that they have a 12-Year-Old's mentality when it comes to the sacred Baseball Statistics. Get Over It.
Whatever the "punishment" may be for whomever test positive for roids should be enforced, just like any other Rule. But its become a witch-hunt... theres no reason for it to have gotten to perjury charges and congress-involvement or what have you. Its goofiness, 50-Year-Old men with 12-Year-Old's mentality. So Cal USMC said:

I agree with post #20 and #21. In todays world one must make choices.Rules and regulations dominate our society in everything we do.
When a baby enters this world he is in debt and a number. Gone are things like right to privacy.
One must conform to obey the rules or suffer the consequinces. I guess we should all practice abstenance and sobriety? Scary Thought
Ricky Williams had choices to make, he decided that smoking ganga was better than millions of dollars and a NFL career. Hookem-HornsMooka said:

Nice post 7. However, let's not forget this isn't something illegal to just our society, it's illegal in the wolrd's society. It'll be harder to convince the world in 30 years that performance enhancing drugs that have nasty long term after effects is "okay" to use. Why can't we just breed atheltes on good ole oatmeal?

Points well made...
- Ralphie Wiggum's (son of Chief Wiggums, Springfield's Chief of Police)
- Brent Favre (QB of the Wisconsin NFL team)
- Popeye
- FSU893243
Others have horrible points...
- Tomcat, what the hell are you even talking about?
- T-Mac, "fluff girls," real Classy.
Ricky Williams, Barry Sanders, Charlie Ward - some of my favorite players... mostly because of the "Eff-You's" that they gave to the NFL. (Ricky didnt quite have his finances together, so he had to crawl back, but I appreciate the gesture).Tomcat said:

I'm still laughing. If you inject vitamin B-12 into a fighting rooster you will have an edge in the pit.Their little heart is racing a thousand miles an hour and at the first pitting they will break about six foot in the air.Now if you throw a kernal of corn laced with nicotine into an opposing roosters pen prior to the fight it will have a doping effect. In other words, we cant allow the doping of animals much less student atheletes.
If you condone the use of performance enhancing drugs, then lets inject our racehorses with methanphetamine. Same Difference.
The rules and regulations are established for specific reasons, one of the most important is the health of the athelete.
You want to play the game then you play by the rules.
P.S. Too bad Rickey broke his arm.He was alot of fun to watch. T-Mac like your post I get it

The probability is extremely likely, given the backgrounds of the Tings. I'm sure however that Dr. Ting isn't the only doctor to have violated medical rules and ethics. Just think, their is an excellent chance of having 2 more Dr. Ting's in future medicine. If you've got it....You've Got It!

T-Mac, yeah no-S it was a joke. Im just razzing you for the fact the you previously made a "no class" crack about me. Nevermind. And by the way, on a difference topic, where was it that you said something about "INTEGRITY/CLASS"... was that you? Which blog, when?

Those were the two smallest guys on the team (Ting brothers). They had to do the roids' just to be able to even practice. They never got into the games and probably were getting killed in practice. Thank God they quit before they were seriously injured. I know that their father, a renouned doc, probably recommended that they leave the program while they were still alive.

I believe i seen Ting in the national championship last year... in fact i know i did, he subs in for the FS who hurt his knee. If someone wants to take steroids let them.. they will have an edge for a while and then when thier weakened tendons give out (side effect of roids) everyone can forget about them just as easily... athletes may get away with it in college but when they go pro everyone will go for the knees like always (sickening really) whats wrong with doing the old fashion way... get some big farm boys who have been chasing pigs around thier whole lives, send em to nebraska... work em like dogs in the weight room, and then when they are 5th year seniors tell them to clear a path for somebody or themselves. I wish i knew the statistics on this... but hasn't every nebraska lineman (osbourne ere) that has gone pro been a staple on the teams line?? people are just getting pissed off in baseball about it because they dont need tendons to play the game... hell you dont even need a brain really, anyone else notice the blank stares on tv?
