Pete Carroll interviews with the Miami Dolphins

Maybe there is something to all those Pete Carroll to the NFL rumors after all.

Wayne Huizenga liked Pete Carroll when the Dolphins hired Nick Saban. Nothing has changed.

The Dolphins owner flew Sunday to Costa Rica, where Carroll is vacationing, and interviewed the University of Southern California coach. This interview, unlike others believed to be information gathering meetings, was different.

The Dolphins want to know whether Carroll is interested in returning to the NFL after failed stints with the New York Jets and New England Patriots. Depending on the answer Carroll gave, he could become Miami's leading candidate to replace Saban.

Mayor, I can't remember who Coach Carroll was with in the NFL before he came to USC? I'm thinking it was the Pat's, but I'm not certain on that. Do you recall? I can look it up I just find it more fun to talk to friends about it.

Mayor, nevermind. I just read the heading at the top of the thread. I'm also in the middle of cooking enchiladas for me and my roommates. I'm trying to hurry up before the 2nd half starts.

The fact that he actually interviewed for this job should make USC fans real nervous. His life needs more fulfillment and the college ranks may not be providing it anymore. Time will tell. If he leaves, expect UCLA to become the team to beat in the pac-10.

I'm not nervous. He doesn't strike me as a fool - so I can't see him wanting to try and make the Miami Dolphins, or any other NFL team, into a consistant winner. The odds are completely stacked against you in the NFL. The NFL sucks! He'll use the interviews to gain more leverage against his employers. That's all.

I agree with C-Dogg; maybe not for the same reason though. 1. UCLA will not be the team to beat in the P10 LMAO at that

What I do worry about is even if PC stays; the recruits may not come to SC just b/c they think he may leave or be more likely now to leave next year or the year after that.

If PC just says NO right up front to the NFL; then the recruits will keep flowing to SC. I can only imagine the exodus if PC leaves now of recruits.

I hope Mike Garrett (SC AD) has a plan B out there and is ready to act instantly if PC does leave.

Here's hoping that PC stays at SC

He won't go anywhere. He has the sweetest job in college football. He is a superstar coach getting all the superstar recruits. SC's scout team would be in the Top 25 if they were given a chance. I would be EXTREMELY suprised if he left, but as a SEC fan, I wouldn't mind seeing some of those recruits come this way. Make the right decision Pete and stay in college football.

There's no way the Bruhorn's take over the Pac 10. They are stuck with Duh-rell for the foreseeable future. He hit his homerun ball last year when they lost two games by 110 points.

    This year they were .500.

    Next year, sub .500.

LOS ANGELES -- Though coach Pete Carroll says he's committed to staying at Southern California, he seems intrigued by the ideas of Miami Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga.
Carroll said Tuesday that he had a compelling, four-hour meeting with Huizenga in Costa Rica over the weekend.

Carroll said he was not offered the Miami coaching job, and stressed in a campus news conference that he has never come close to thinking he would leave USC.

"I'm thrilled to be here," he said. "As I've been the whole time, I haven't wavered. I know that being curious about it has helped me appreciate what we have here.

"I absolutely expect to be here."

But he did say Huizenga has an unusual approach for an NFL owner.

"This was the one instance I've come in contact with that has all the elements I have talked about," Carroll said. "[Huizenga] has structured a program where the head coach has the entire say, from top to bottom.

"It's a one-voice program. I don't think there are any other situations like that in the NFL."

Carroll formerly coached the New York Jets and New England Patriots before coming to USC, and has often said he preferred coaching in the college ranks because he had complete control.

Carroll returned earlier in the day from Costa Rica, where he had been vacationing since No. 4 USC beat No. 8 Michigan 32-18 in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day.

Huizenga met with Carroll in Costa Rica on Sunday. The Dolphins have been without a coach since Nick Saban abruptly resigned last week to take the Alabama job.

if he is to go to miami, he could join the likes of saban and petrino, ill support him b/c he would be miamis coach but i hope he stays at USC forever, he could win 2 or 3 more national titles there and become the greatest who ever lived.

What I'm finding very funny is that you are still hearing mis-informed sports writers saying that Saban came to Alabama for the money. People need to do their homework. SABAN TOOK A PAYCUT to come to Bama. A half million a year! Or, about an 11.2 percent paycut. These guys are from the Associated Press mostly. You think they would take the time to do a little research before they put articles in major newspapers. Yeah, Carroll is doing the same thing Rich Rod did. No interest in the job, but trying to gain leverage in contract negotiations with USC. Can you really fault him though??? I don't think so.

Hey, want to hear some thing funny? I've been bitchin' this Arkansas situation where Mustain, Williams and Cleveland's momma's all went into Frank Broyles and started cryin' about playin' time. Damien Williams transferred out. I stomped that situation into the dirt. Guess where Damien Williams has already enrolled? That's right - USCW. He'll miss next year - but play WR in 2008 as a soph. I guess I'll have to hope he grabs about a 100 balls now. How fugkin' ironic is this? I'm hopin' we get that LB Williams that left Miami also. I guess we're well on our way to becoming MiamiW.

    I agree with with Trojan.

Carroll will stay in SC. Reasons:

    1. He was a loser in the NFL already with two franchises. Both fired him, after stale runs.
    2. He can control and inspire college kids, who have a hunger to make it to the NFL.
    3. He can stay on or near the top of the NCAA due to his steady stream of talent coming into to USC, and his fairly weak schedule each year.
    4. The Dolphins are at least five years away from serious Super Bowl contention, and are in for a couple really tough years ahead with their salary cap issues, not having a QB and an aging defense. That's why Saban left.

    Rebel#1222,
    Re:post17,

Your #1 reason that you think Coach Carroll will stay is really the #1 reason why he would leave.....PRIDE. He has some unfinished business to tend to in the NFL. Michael Jordan's biggest regrets in sports is not failing with the Wizards, but failing at baseball. It's a male ego/pride thing.

I agree with 1/2 of what Rebel 1222 said.
Mainly, that Pete is staying at USC. Reb's reasons #1 and #3 aren't exactly accurate. For instance, Carroll posted a 33-31 record as a head coach for the Jets and pats. Last time I checked, thats 2 more wins than losses. Also, USC's schedule may not have been the toughest, but it definately wasn't weak. And allthough his stint in the NFL wasn't as successful as his career at USC, Carroll has proven to be a great coach at this level. His reasons #2 and #4 make more sense.

    USC Nation:

Without Jarrett and Pete C., The Trojans are all done. There's no hope at all. UCLA will punish you once again. Sorry!

Okay; maybe, just maybe, you stand a chance against Washington. But things look pretty grim. Sorry!

    Cape Cod Tom:

Or is that the "Masked Mackerel"? Yep, we lost Dwayne Jarrett today. You were right earlier about Pete Carroll. He aint goin' nowhere, but it does say something to all potential recruits, that the NFL is very impressed with Pete. Maybe they should be also.

Neverthless, we lose Jarrett, Smith and McFoy as receivers. McFoy was a very valuable 3rd receiver who was injured much of this year. I would not be surprised to see him end up on some NFL squad this year.

But never fear: there are a ton of Top Receivers waithing to happen. They are Patrick Turner 6'5 230 Jr and the nations top rated receiver two years ago. Vidal Hazelton 6'2 200 So and the nation's #2 rated receiver last year. David Ausberry 6'5 235 RS Frosh and a top five receiver from last year. Jamire Holland 6'0 185 RS Frosh and a top rated receiver last year. Holland may be the only guy in America who is as fast as Harvin and Spiller. Trevon Patterson 5'10 180 So and a pure burner. He's about as fast as Holland. That is five super receiver prospects ready to go. I suspect that either Turner or Ausberry emerges into the Mike Williams-Dwayne Jarrett catagory, with Hazelton and Holland, being better versions of the Kerry Colbert-Steve Smith types that we have had in here. This group should end up being better than all the rest. They were certainly rated much higher. So, don't worry, it'll be bombs away, as usual.

    Tommie T;

Or is it "The Tommie Tickler"? With out Jarrett and PC it will be more like...stink bombs away.

I don't think USC will be able to compete with the rest of the PAC 10 without those guys. USC should consider transfering to the MAC Conference. It would be more exciting for the state of California.
You would meet new friends and everyone would be better off. Don't you think?

Thats "Tommie Gun" - and we aint talkin' about no water pistol here.

You know Pete's not leavin'. We'll miss Jarrett. I'll be shocked if someone does what he has done again. But, we replaced Mike Williams with Jarrett, and maybe Turner replaces Jarrett. You just better hope that Rutgers doesn't make to the NC game next year. That'll be a worse beatdown than Ohio State just received. Man, I'd almost hate to even see the Trojans do that to the Scarlet Nights.

    Cape Code Tom,

No, I have no problem meetin' new people. Been over at the other facility this week, helpin' out some enginneers with some large project for the Boeing 747's (don't fly anytime too soon), and everytime ol' one-eye peeks his head out from the bottom of my jeans - some chicken head wants to come up and get to know me. I tell em' that that bad boy is real hard on women and it might be best to just pass him right on by. But, sadly, they just keep wearin' brighter and tighter clothes every single day. Nope, Ol' Tommie Gunn might have to blast one into oblivion any day now.

    Has anyone read these quotes?

"This was the only time I've even thought about talking with anybody (from the NFL). Here's a situation where a guy would give a head coach the opportunity to do anything he wanted to do. He's an awesome guy."

"I've got to tell you that I'm always chasing a challenge," Carroll said. "I'm teased by all challenges."

Maybe he's using this as leverage for a raise like these other coaches have. Or maybe he sees this as a challenge.

He's a moron if he leaves So Cal but if he goes to the NFL there is no way he goes to Miami. He is too smart. Who the hell wants to bang his head against the wall and have to take the Patriots on year after year when you can go to any other division in the NFL for the same money and have more success?
