Utah boosters don't believe in BCS wins
Utah football coach Kyle Whittingham - who skipped practice this week to appear on ESPN - is having a hard time finding boosters to support his plan of recognizing the Utes 'signature' wins over BCS programs.
Whittingham had approached the Crimson Club to build a 'graveyard', complete with headstones marking victories over opponents from the BCS conferences.
"I think it would be something that would be a good thing to do," Whittingham said of the idea.
The early verdict? FAIL. Not even one Utah booster has put down a single dollar towards the project.
You have to respect & admire what Whittingham is trying to do in leaving his mark on the school and starting a tradition that could be a significant highlight for the Utes for years to come. Larger schools have traditions - such as the Sod Cemetery at Florida State - and it can be a great source of pride & motivation for a team.
I hate to say it, but it's hard for me to take a program seriously when not even one booster will cough up $250 to support even the smallest of pet projects.
