Utah Attorney General may sue the BCS

Mark Shurtleff contends the BCS unfairly puts schools like Utah, which is a member of a conference without an automatic bid to the lucrative bowl games, at a competitive and financial disadvantage.

The investigation is very preliminary and could result in him suing his own state... Utah and Utah State are members of the MWC and WAC, who are a part of the BCS and receive a share of its revenue whether they participate in its games or not.

The anti-trust laws may be hard to prove. Though Utah was denied a shot at the title game the 4.5 million they will get, in addition to their regular payments, will make it hard to argue for a financial hardship.

Personally, I think this is well intended but will go nowhere. An AP championship would do much more than a lawsuit. If Richard Nixon can declare a national champion, why not Barrack Obama? When was the last time a Democrat carried Utah in the presidential election? Why not 2012?

Maybe then the BCS will take his playoff ideas seriously.
