Five UTEP players arrested for bar brawl
You've never been in a bar-room brawl until you've been in one in a border town, or so the old saying goes.
Five UTEP players were arrested, along with a formerly dismissed UTEP LB, following a brawl outside an El Paso bar. The most egregious charge stems from sophomore WR Tufick Shadrawy trying to strip the gun away from a police officer responded to the call.
Two 20-year-old sophomores -- receiver Tufick Shadrawy and linebacker Brian Wilkins -- were arrested on charges of assault on a public servant and interference with public duties. Shadrawy also was accused of attempting to take a weapon from a law enforcement officer, and Wilkins was accused of resisting arrest.Sophomore defensive back Damon Cromartie, 20, was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct.
Linebacker Isaiah Carter and defensive back Brandon Thigpen, both 17-year-old freshmen, were accused of public intoxication.
Emeri Spence, 22, was arrested on charges of interference with public duties and resisting arrest. He was recently kicked off the team, UTEP officials said.
The players have since been released from jail on bond following their cuffing and stuffing.
UTEP head coach Mike Price isn't in the loop just yet, but offered an exceptionally weak statement to the media. Price said he was "monitoring the situation and will take disciplinary action if necessary."

ho hum... no big deal.. make them run some laps, get em up at 5 a.m. for a couple weeks and then let it run its way thru the court system..
the bar brawl.. no big deal IMHO
stripping the gun (or attempting) was stupid I'll admit but let them run it thru the court system

In how many languages can you say "Stupid Kids"? Talk about a lot of miss-placed aggression, their coach needs to stress the need to save it for practice or game time. Now, like all of the rest of these incidents we've read about, I wasn't there. The gun thing, for all we know dumbo was just trying to knock it out of the officer's hand. Doesn't matter; it's going to go down as an attempt to take it away as opposed to knock it away, which shapes up to being stupid no matter how you look at it. I mean; what was supposed to happen if he was successful? "A-hugh, did ya see wat I did? Yup, cool wadn't it?"
What was he thinking, GatorStud? He probably wasn't thinking at all, is the problem. Or, he might have remembered DeNero in Taxi, "I'm faster than you; I'm faster than you…", and tried to play it out maybe. I don't know. All I know is there seems to be a pattern here. Didn't Paterno have to discipline a couple of his players who were involved in a bar fight recently?
These kids really need to get a grip. They don't know what it is they're throwing away.

Rumor has it that Mike Price gave them the University credit card to buy the booze with. Just kiddin'!!!!
On a more serious note though;I was once accused of trying to take a gun away from an officer one time. I was totally innocent, I sware. Maybe we shouldn't judge these guys before we know exactly what happened. Maybe some of these players mistook the police officers for the guys they were fighting. Who knows???
I say, let the court of law figure it out. If they are guilty, then they should pay the price; which would include being kicked off the team, and the loss of scholarships...not to mention whatever the penalty is for the crime they committed.
All I'm am saying is maybe we should hold off on all of the prejudgment.
ROLL TIDE

now, mind you after recent events concerning troubled gators, i will not stand on soapbox and spew crap about what these players are pulling...and if they should be kicked off the team but, ATTEMPTING TO TAKE AWAY A WEAPON FROM A POLICE OFFICER.....you have got to be kidding me....at what point in this altercation did this kid think that taking a gun from an an officer was going to help his athletic career, or his life in any way....not to mention what would of happened if he did get that gun away from the officer....what was he gonna do next...that is truly the scary part...
i'm tellin you kev.....it is really hard to understand what is going through the minds of our youth......
go gators....and hokies
