Sign of the Apocalypse? Vandy is 2-0 to start the season
Don't look now, but longtime SEC basement dweller Vanderbilt is 2-0 to start the season.
Vandy is riding the wave of QB Jay Cutler to start the season off with win over Wake Forest and then followed that up with an SEC win in their first conference game of the season, the first time the Commodores have completed that task since 1990. The 2-0 start is their first since 1988. Don't look now, but Vandy is tied for the lead for the SEC East. (Yeah we know its early, let them have their fun)
It was the second win, an improbable victory over the Arkansas Razorbacks that have started to percolate the faithful. Positive stories from the Associated Press, in the Nashville City Paper as well as the Memphis Commercial Appeal have shown that the hot start has not gone unnoticed. With a game against rebuilding Ole Miss on the horizon this week, passing that hurdle brings Division I-AA Richmond as well as Middle Tennessee State to campus in back to back weeks. So a 4-1 or 5-0 start isn't a long shot for the Commodores before the meat of the SEC schedule kicks in.
Getting a little too far ahead for most fans to stomach? That sort of start is nothing to shake a stick at for many college football powerhouses. But on to the faithful of this long time college football doormat, a little hope has been something that has been in short supply for a long, long time.

I can't get over this loss. As a Hog fan, I have been nothing but optimistic this year, telling everyone how we would upset USC in Los Angeles. And then we lose to Vanderbilt at home.... giving up over 400 yards of offense.
I wish our game with USC wasn't televised. :(

With our endless stable of running backs, Monk's talent and Washington's speed, I thought our offense could be nearly unstoppable even with an average and inexperienced QB (Johnson). What I don't understand is why a now experienced defense (they played all of last year) has seemingly made little to no improvement under Herring.

I'm not nearly in the loop as I'd like to be since I moved to Columbia, Missouri (Tiger & Big 12 country)... But I did have a bad feeling about this year because of the lack of experience on O. I do miss our good defense from the not TOO distant past. I wish Burns and Thompson never left us in that department.

Well, I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but as a recent Vandy grad I can tell you what will happen with the Dores. They will beat Ole Miss. The next game Cutler will get hurt. The will lose from then on. That's pretty much how our team works... we get up early and lose late, this is just on a different scale. Ask UT fans, they know about us getting ahead early and blowing the lead.

Vandy is giving 3 points this week to Ole Miss. When was the last time Vandy was laying points to an SEC team? I don't know if that says more about Vandy or Ole Miss.

ooooooooooo, Ole Miss today at 11:30CT
you can betchya there're a lot more souls being sold than just BJ's.
Let me tell you, these guys are pumped to kick some ass, but let's hope that they can hold the line in the 2nd half. If they can manage to not screw up in the 2nd, they'll be okay.
