Beamer breaks down Hokies road to BCS

Who knew Virginia Tech football coach Frank Beamer was so well versed in the BCS? The Hokies coach gave his take on VaTech's road to the BCS title game:

"When you look at the remainder of our schedule, if somehow we could get through that deal with Boston College, Virginia was ranked until last week, you've got Miami and then if you get through those, you'd be playing somebody pretty good in a championship game," he said, referring to most of the third-ranked Hokies' remaining games, and a possible appearance in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship in Jacksonville, Fla.

"If you got through all those and the computer didn't go ring-a-ding ding," he said, pausing as if to the leave the obvious unsaid. "I think it's going to happen."

No offense, Coach, but I think I'll go with ESPN's BCS analyst Brad Edwards' opinion:

I had some good news for you, but I don't. Virginia Tech has looked quite impressive this season, but there's nothing they can do to gain on Texas in the polls unless the Longhorns lose or play some close games.

That said, nothing wrong with Beamer getting his 'Mack Brown speech' ready for after the ACC title game.

VT just has to win out and watch Texas cry and fall on the blade. VT has one of the hardest remaining schedules including the championship game for the ACC. They will definitely lose one game, especially if its FSU.

There is no way that VT can win out, but lets say they do. Then the title game should be Texas and VT USC by virture of a weaker schedule should fall from it's perch up top. I don't belive that they should have remained there as long as they have anyway.

As much hatred as I have for the Hokies, this is hard to say.........I hope they win out and make it to the BCS Championship game. I wonder how the higher ups would feel about a championship game without Texas or USC in the hunt. Maybe that's what the NCAA needs to show that an extra game or two is needed to determine a real champion.

IF VT wins out they should play for the title. How many more times will we have to endure a Big 12 team getting the benefit of the doubt and then getting drubbed in the title game?

If VT wins the 1st ACC champ game and is then denied the BCS champ game, it would be a disgrace to the BCS and it will forever defy logic.

As a Hokie fan I want Virginia Tech to go to the Nation Championship game. I believe after watching Texas and USC that Tech would have a chance against both. However, with the way the human polls are slanted I believe it will be very difficult for Virginia Tech to move to the number 1 or 2 position in the polls.
Do I think Tech will win out? Yes, no matter whom they face. Tech has more depth and talent than BC, Miami, Virginia, and UNC. And if my beloved Hokies play FSU in the ACC Championship (I do not believe that FSU will make it to the ACC championship game) they will win that show down also.
FSU has been inconsistent all year. They played a sorry game against Miami, lost to a not so great mid-conference team UVA, and I believe FSU will lose to Clemson and Florida. Before all you FSU fans jump on me. I went to FSU and got my second degree and the Hokies have more heart and talent right now than the Seminoles do.
    GO HOKIES!!!

If Miami's, Florida State's and UVA's only other loss this year is to Va.Tech. it will really help the Hokies strength of schedule and may persuade voters look their way. If they continue to win, and do it convincingly, it would be a disgrace for them not to play in the BCS Championship game. Texas has, by far, the weakest schedule of any of the undefeated teams in the country. Winning out shouldn't be all that is required of the Longhorns. Their are probably 2-3 Pac10,ACC and SEC teams that could've ran the table with Longhorn's schedule. Possibly even 1 or 2 Big 10 teams, as well. Now if the Longhorns win all of their remaining games by an average of 50 points, then maybe I will consider them. I was born, raised and still reside in Texas, but I am not going try to defend the Longhorns or their schedule against the undefeated teams of the Pac10,SEC and ACC-but evidentally there are some people that will.

For the Hokies to win out and NOT be in the Big Dance would be a travesty; but, we'll be fine. It's on our backs, no matter what. Need to win all the rest of the games and then the bowl, wherever that may be.

All the rest will work itself out...

Are you insane? Why in Hell would the major conferences and Notre Dame give up their promotion and advertising money to the minor conferences? And what incentive is their for the Major Bowls? For those not familiar, even more important than the advertising revenue for a bowl is how well the fan base travels. Out of town guests grease the wheel of the local economies and are the reason they are willing to offer large appearance fees to traditional powers such as Notre Dame, Michigan, etc. even in an off year.

All we need is a "Plus-One" system for where we wind up with 3x Unbeatens.....why does no one see that? It is a heckuvalot more feasible (translation: likely) than a Playoff System and it wouldn't shake up the current Bowls for 53 Teams that aren't in the Championship Games.

Geez...a Playoff would ruin the unique aspect that College Football has now, and would turn it into the NFL Lite (my opinion).

Why screw up what all of us love just to solve the bickering between the Auburns and Southern Californias? One more game would fix the problem and call it a day...

The only way to have a true National Champ is by having a play-off.

I guess you Hokie fans like the way it is so you always have something to cry about.

By the way WV is ranked #5

VT's program is going down south.

They will not even make it to the ACC title game next year.
