Hokies will wear memorial patch

The Virginia Tech football team will wear a memorial patch this season, in honor of those injured and killed during the April 16th murders and the spirit of the Hokie community.

The logo consists of the well-known maroon VT athletic logo that symbolizes the innovative and dynamic nature of Virginia Tech, over an orange ribbon that is recognition of the lives lost on April 16 and a symbol of the victims' prevailing Hokie spirit.

The tribute ribbon will appear on athletes' jerseys as an inspiration and celebration of the victims' lives and the unforgettable mark they left on the Virginia Tech community, the nation and the world.

    nice. see ESPN this is how you stage a memorial. something subtle that isn't a money grabbing in your face "we're doing something good too!" memorial. good job VT, nicely done.

    i think it's a great gesture....the ribbon patch is widely used in these situations in which victims are honored.....but i am sure that the same people that dogged espn for the gameday crew going to VT, will probably dog the patchmaker for trying to make a buck...or maybe the people who manufacture the thread are only in it for the money....or is it the person sewing them on the jerseys....i'm sure that they are only in it for the quick buck too....

    Now the patch and logo are O.K. We all knew this was coming. ESPN exploiting the situation is not O.K.

    Nice. I think all Division 1 Teams this year should sew a patch on their jerseys in memory of those who lost their lives at VT. Good luck this year. Have a great season. Great post, Kevin!

    Sure, it looks nice. Why did there have to be one in the 1st place? And the parents of he who did what it took to get us here, what will they wear? I'm not interested in how much they are. From whom do we get them? That's all the information I'll need. Peace & sweet repose to all.

    When and where can I get these patches? Ryan Clark was a personal family friend and he will always be in our hearts. We will wear this patch in honor of him and the other victims. And we will pray this never happens again...
