The Washington Huskies want you to write their fight song
Via EDSBS, the Washington Huskies are sponsoring a contest to find a new fight song and they want you to write it.
Here's your chance to capture the spirit and tradition of the UW. Compose lyrics to a new school song, and a professional composer will write the music for the winning entry! Lyrics should be easy to remember, easy to sing.
The Huskies need two versus, each to be followed by one chorus/refrain. The winning submission gets $1,000 and a lifetime in infamy as the guy who wrote that dorky song that all the drunk frat brothers scream prior to each U-Dub loss.
I think it goes with out saying that -- as honorary members of the Fanblogs Glee Club -- you must log on and enter, and that you are MORALLY OBLIGATED to post your best Washington Huskies fight song in the comments below.
Ready? All together now... and a one, and a two, and a three....

No, Gatorhippy, Jaw-ja uses the Battle Hymn of the Republic as their fight song. It's a catchy little tune with a good beat and you can dance to it...
Okay, Doggie sound good. Let me see what I can do for some lyrics...

(You don't even have to change the lyrics that much)

It's fun to lose and to pretend
We're gonna win, and have you heard
That stink you sniff is not a turdGo Huskies, go - c'mon, let's go
Go Huskies, go - c'mon, let's go
Go Huskies, go - c'mon, let's goWith the lights, out it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious

Oh, that hurts, Ron! What about your boy Lennie? Is he getting soft on us, talkin up old Colt McCoy? Is that his name? McCoy? So many damned kids named 'Colt' its hard to keep track.
Pretty soon, every 1-A team will have a player named 'Colt', and they'll all be white guys. The black guys named Colt will have a middle name of .45 !
Here's some names I'd like to see:
Colt Smith-Wesson
Colt Howitzer
Colt Double-Action Jackson...

Sung to the tune of UM's "Hail to the Victors"...
Washington Huskies can't win!
Washington Huskies must lose!
Tyrone will drive the program into the ground!Washington Huskies tailgate...
in boats instead of car trunks.
Maybe Warren Moon could save us all now!
I'm still working on a chorus. Must call my brother-in-law (he's a UW and UM alum).

For C-Dogg #14...
1994 - The 'Whammy in Miami'
The 'Whammy in Miami' was a college football game played between the Huskies and the Miami Hurricanes on September 24, 1994 in Miami's Orange Bowl. The game was the first football contest between the two schools, but they did share a piece of football history. During the 1991 season, both teams finished the year with identical 12-0 records and both teams were crowned National Champions. The teams were unable to settle the championship on the field, as both teams were locked into their respective bowl games (Washington in the Rose and Miami in the Orange). As a result, both schools agreed to schedule the other for a series of games.Entering the game, the University of Miami had an NCAA record home winning streak of 58 games, was ranked 5th in the nation and had a 2-0 record. The Hurricanes had not lost at the Orange Bowl since 1985 and not to a team from outside of Florida since 1984. The Huskies on the other hand were 1-1, following a loss to USC and win over Ohio State. Odds makers placed the Huskies as a 14 point underdog. The Hurricanes appeared to be on their way to another home victory and proving the odds makers right in leading the Huskies 14-3 at halftime. After half-time the Huskies came out firing scoring 22 points in 5 minutes. Key plays included a 75 yard touchdown pass, 34 yard interception return, and a fumble recovery. The Huskies showed no signs of slowing down and dominated the second half on the way to the 38-20 victory. The upset made national headlines, including being the top story on ESPN's SportsCenter.
The final score was Washington 38, Miami 20.

"...The Huskies were voted National Champions by the USA Today/CNN Coaches Poll. The 1991 team averaged over 41 points per game, only once scoring fewer than 20 points, and held opponents to an average of less than 10 points per game, including two shutouts. They are still widely considered to be one of the greatest single-season college football teams ever fielded."

Also to C-Dogg, #14...
"...Washington, under second-year head coach Rick Neuheisel, opened the 2000 season with a 44-20 victory over the Idaho Vandals. The Miami Hurricanes traveled to Seattle the next week and senior QB Marques Tuiasosopo threw for 223 yards and ran for 45 as the Huskies handed the #4 Hurricanes their only loss of the season 34-29."I actually was a sphomore at this game, and recall Dorsey eating grass all day and crying after...
We got our clocks cleaned the next year in the Orange Bowl, but believe the above makes us 2-1 against the U...

c-dogg (24):
Am I reading this right? Is there a Washington Huskies fan talking smack about the Miami Hurricanes?
Did...did the 'Canes not score enough points the last time we met?
Did they not get the memo?
Is it because the difference of the score 65-7 = 58, the home game streak number?
Is it because even in the decline since 2002 (or '03 or '04), Miami has still won over twice as many games as Washington?
Or is it the Canes' better records every single year since 2000?
Or even the fact that the 'Canes have a 5 Titles to Washington's 1?
Or...is the '2-1' all the Huskies have to throw at Miami?
Help me understand... :)
[Sorry, UWDAWG...I've been rather fiesty around Fanblogs in the last few days. I'll be more polite when the season gets underway...]

UWDawg: Your posts above read like they came from a press guide. You should quote your source, or better yet, just type something you came up with. Leave that crap for the homer sites. You'll need to bring your A-game with you while in this forum...
But don't stop at the 1991 title. BTW, the one you want to claim in 1991 was the UPI title, not the USA Today one. Although USA Today eventually supplanted the UPI poll, they were just one of about 30 other national championship selectors who didn't mean squat that year. Maybe you should get the facts of your team's moment in the sun correct.
And while you're at it, why don't you mention Washington's national title that they won in 1960, you know, the same one they just finally recognized last year, 47 YEARS after the fact. The one where one measley selector out of over 30 chose them and Washington decided to wait until half a century later to claim it hoping that no one was watching. In case you missed the thread, here it is:

Just change a couple of words from the last one and submit it, you might just be the winner...

FYI...We beat the AP#1 in the Rose Bowl in 1960, however the polls were taken before the bowls back then...I still don't like the no-name polls, but we got jobbed then, just as in 1985 when we finished 12-0 and were #2 to BYU who had no biz getting it after playing noone in the top 25.
The UDub has been playing football for 20 more years than Miami w/ an identical winning percentage...Tradition on the turf is not something that the U-dub lacks...
@#28..The game was played in Seattle, but the beatdown of us was at the Orange, So?...I remember the game at the Orange where victory #59 was already on the wall before the U went down. And yeah #25, we gotya head to head...2 to 1. Say what ya want.

UWDAWG...(#36)
Although UW is up 2-1 on Miami. You guys didn't want anymore of us after that 11/24/01 58 point win. There is NO TEAM that Miami has EVER turned down a series with. We are just smart enough not to schedule them all in the same year(Oklahoma, Florida, Florida State). No one can say that we refused to play them. I know you didn't say that UWDAWG...just making a point that THE-U doesn't run. Unlike Washington, Notre Dame and Texas. All didn't want a piece of us anymore...we wanted some more of them though.

Good retort, UWDawg, but you'll score no sympathy points here. Polls were polls then as they are now, and for some reason, both the AP and UPi polls chose to vote an 8-1 Minnesota team over an undefeated Huskie team. Also, as far as polling the winner before the bowls, yes it wasn't fair by today's standards, but it was the rule at the time. You can't go and decide you didn't like the rule 47 years later and try and sneak a trophy into the cabinet.
Go tell it to the mountain. Auburn has 6 weak MNCs that they could claim if they counted like Alabama, but thankfully, we do not--including really getting hosed in 1983 and losing the vote to an inferior Miami team...
