Doba out at Washington State

The AP is reporting that Bill Doba is out as head coach of the Washington State Cougars.

Bill Doba will not return as football coach at Washington State after a 5-7 season in which the team missed going to a bowl game for a fourth consecutive year, a source in the athletics department told The Associated Press on Monday.

It was not immediately clear if he resigned or was fired. A formal announcement was scheduled.

Doba will not return despite an emotional 42-35 win over archrival Washington on Saturday that gave him a 3-2 record against the cross-state rivals from Seattle.

Doba, 67, had a 30-29 record in five seasons at Washington State, which is based in Pullman. He is one of only a handful of coaches to have a winning career record at the Pacific 10 Conference school.

Has it really been 4 years since WSU beat Texas in a bowl game? Man, time flies when you get Vince Young and a national title. Hook'em Horns.

From the Arkansas Razorbacks school of gratitude: "Hey Bill, thanks for that fantastic come-from-behind victory over the Huskies. We'll be seeing you..."
