Price is not right for Washington State

It's official - the second coming of Mike Price to Pullman is not to be. The former Cougars coach is staying at UTEP.

Price, the only coach to guide WSU to two Rose Bowls, confirmed Sunday he has withdrawn his name as a candidate for the Cougars' head coaching job.

"I've got my place on Lake Coeur d'Alene," Price said by phone from El Paso, Texas. "I'm going to support the Cougars and get season tickets and be contributing to the Cougar Club and be up there second-guessing the coach."

The focus for Washington State now turns to former Louisville and Michigan State head coach John L. Smith (aka Slappy), Eastern Washington coach Paul Wulff, Oklahoma co-offensive coordinator Kevin Sumlin, and Missouri offensive coordinator Dave Christensen.

@WEA - I re-opened the Tebow Heisman thread. Have at it.

Personally I'm not a big fan of individual awards, so... that's about all we're going to get, unfortunately.

Not as much fun if no one can see the thread any longer, Kev. Oh well.

    Congrats, Tebow!

Just looking back at that Heisman thread, I really think that Troy Smith deserved it last year. He was the best player in COLLEGE football. Now, of course the year before, it should have been Vince Young. But overall, i don't agree much with the Heisman hype.

And Vince may soon be receiving that award as that take it from Reggie Bush. Was he (allegedly)receiving money from the school or was it from a business/individual?

    Bevo,

If he received inducements while in college, he's history, and USC's could be facing el fin de musica, tambien...

Supposedly, Lake has conversations (recorded ones) with USC coaches and others who knew what was going on...

The "lack of institutional control" could quite possibly be slapped on USC...

Their judgement cometh, and that right quick...

TE, you say that USC would be the one getting in trouble, does that mean that Reggie would be let off the hook? If so, then Rhett Bomar really got screwed by his choice of school.

Tomcat: Juarez--home of your favorite donkey show? :-) Oh, I can't believe I said that!

Who is this Lake guy with USC? The latest player on the dole? I wish they'd hurry up and finish the investigation into the Bush affair so they can vacate that season and have Auburn step in and fill that big void where there used to be a national champion.

As far as the Heisman, I don't think Vince Young would take it. They might just leave it vacated. An individual award or something like a conference crown may stay vacated, but forget about leaving a MNC unclaimed. Someone is going to step up and claim it.

#13 WarEagATL I havent seen that particular show, but I have been to the Tuna Bar in Neuava Laredo.
One time a kid ask my uncle in english"I got two sisters, two female womens but one of them is queer". Ever heard of Papa Gio's or in english Daddy Roosters in Boys Town? One time I had a co-worker from east Texas go down there and that poor guy fell in love and wanted to marry one of them and bring her home. Poor boy had never been out of the red dirt piney woods, We told him not to pick a young pretty one.
Heck you couldnt wipe that smile of off his face. The clubs in Bama are probably tame.
Coach Price is probably enjoying Old El Paso
BTW leave your pocket knife on this side of the river, the cops pockets are bottomless
    Adios Tomcat

War Eagle, I think Vince probably would claim the Heisman if they took it from Bush. He wasn't afraid to tell people that he thought he deserved it, was holding a grudge because of it, and played the greatest game of any one player that I've ever seen. I don't think he'd go a day before asking about his Heisman trophy if Reggie gets busted.

Bevo: Maybe so, if they offered it rather than him having to lobby for it.

Some people think that the national championship should just be vacated if USC is held liable. I say no way. No year will ever have a vacated MNC unless we eventually get to a full playoff system. Of course, it's no longer a 'mythical' championship then.

There's a difference between vacating games and forfeiting games. Forfeit means the other team won all your victories, not you. Vacating means that your wins are erased, but the opposing teams still have their loss. The offending team doesn't get losses in lieu of those wins, though.

If USC was forced to vacate the 2004 season, Oklahoma would still have the NCG loss, leaving only Auburn and Utah as the undefeated teams in the country. Some of the 30+ national championship selectors might not want to change their votes, so they would vacate their bestowed championship. Most would probably change their vote. Regardless, Auburn would pick up a preponderance of selectors awarding their title to them and could legitimatly claim 2004 as a national championship.

Pretty? No. It would be an extraordinary situation. No one wants to win it that way, but someone is going to win it. Might as well be the most deserving.

Could this situation affect USC's recruiting or scholarships or anything? I don't want coondawg (even if he's gone) to truthfully be able to say that the WAC could beat USC.

Any effect would be short-term. USC is, after all, USC, and will always attract quality athletes.

A few years ago, the NCAA changed their guidelines concerning 'loss of institutional control', which measures a schools' culpability in an infraction. Before, if it happened to your team, you were responsible. Now, the NCAA must more or less prove that you knew it was happening.

USC may claim that they had no idea that Bush was receiving all these inducements. I think it would be hard to keep a straight face while doing that...
